Iiiiiit’s time! Valentine’s Day is just around the corner. Bring on the pink, the hearts, the red velvet, the mushy-mush. Gushing proclamations of love and stubborn anti-V.D. sentiments are sure to abound in equal measure.
Me, I probably fall somewhere in the middle of the lovers and the haters. I’m having more fun with holidays now that I have a toddler running about, so a few sticky handmade greetings and at least one batch of heart-shaped cookies will be in order. And while I’m not a fan of (and don’t subscribe to) the forced commercialism of the day (I do NOT need or want a $125 bunch of roses), ultimately if a day dedicated to love spreads a few more warm fuzzies around to all of us, I think that’s probably a good thing overall.
I’ve gone a little off track, but I did have a point.
See, this rosy-colored smoothie is especially perfect for your lovah or loved one this time of year. I mean, it’s good any time of year. But especially now.
It’s super, duper, flushed-and-in-love pink. And it’s dang delicious, too.
Ever since I tried Julia’s incredible Kale Ginger Detox Smoothie, I’ve been all about fresh ginger in smoothies. I just adore the fresh, zippy little kick it adds.
I mixed strawberries and ginger together on a whim, and yeah. I looooved it. Ice cold warm fuzzies right here.
This is a pretty simple smoothie, and simple is good! Strawberries, banana, ginger. A little almond milk, some chia seeds to amp it up, honey to sweeten. The strawberries and the ginger totally complement one another. Was I the last to realize that strawberries and ginger are the perfect pair? Oh, hey. Another Valentine’s Day tie-in!
Swap a vegan sweetener for the honey and it’s vegan-friendly, or, if your strawberries are sweet enough, you might not need any honey at all.
