This Week’s Bits & Bites

It’s been a busy couple of weeks around here as we wrap up the school year and get this summer started. I’m so excited to continue getting the yard into shape (SO MANY half-completed projects!)

One project we’re finally almost done with? The playhouse!

Playhouse progress! Next up: roofing, decorating, and landscaping. 🏡

This thing, man, it has taken us forever. It started out as one of those standard swing set play structures – the kind with the second-level fort situation. We bought one used a couple of years ago, reassembled it in our yard and – long story short – had some HOA-related difficulties. So we decided to disassemble it and place the fort part on a wooded section of our property –  sort of a cabin in the “woods.” It wasn’t very appealing that way, though, and didn’t really get used. So after a bit of Pinteresting, I found a few examples of playhouses (such as this one) with three sides and open decks – and I thought that just might work with this one. So my crafty hubby got to building, and here we are – almost done! One more coat of paint on the floor and then it’s time to landscape and decorate (our kiddo is especially excited about the latter part – okay, I am too). Fingers crossed we can make it happen this weekend!

We often spend Memorial Day at home working on projects. It makes for a nice, quiet, and productive weekend. This year, the weather is, surprisingly, looking to cooperate. Which is always a surprise in the Pacific Northwest.

Thanks to the sunshine, I’ve got summer recipes on my mind. I’m especially loving the looks of these fine foodstuffs from around the web.

These Firecracker Fruit Kabobs from Fork and Beans. Super cute, and much quieter than the real thing!

Blackberry Pie Bars from Brown-Eyed Baker. Everyone I know would GOBBLE these up.

Vegetarian Summer Pasta Salad with Dill Vinaigrette from Vegetarian Ventures. So pretty!

Fresh strawberries, lime, black peppercorns, and tequila team up in “The Red and Black” cocktail from Smitten Kitchen.

Marinated Mozzarella Melon Salad from How Sweet Eats. How colorful is this?

Frozen Watermelon Rose Sangria Slushies From Half Baked Harvest. So pretty and quintessentially summer.

This one made my jaw drop: Dill Pesto Potato Wedge Salad from Cotter Crunch. Prettiest salad ever + YUM.

I hope you have a wonderful weekend!
