This Week’s Bits & Bites

Summer … well … isn’t the best time for me blog-wise. Once July rolls around, my motivation is … how shall we say … lagging. Lacking. Lazy. If I put a positive spin on it, I’m embracing the season! We’ve been working on yard projects, building fairy gardens, picking blueberries while trying keep the dogs from eating all of the sugar snaps, splashing around on the blob, reading in trees.

I’ve got tons of ideas percolating and though my time here online is on the scarce side, real life is full and I’m looking forward to sharing many new things. You know, after playtime is over.

School-wise, I’m almost done with my culinary course! I embarked upon Rouxbe’s Professional Plant Based Certification back in February. Many recipes, photos, and quizzes later, I’m almost at the end. Just about a half dozen recipe assignments to go, plus what looks to be a bit of a rigorous final exam. I’ve learned a ton not only specifically about plant-based cooking but also the fundamentals. The course has done exactly what I’d hoped it would – teach me more on the technical side, expand my horizons culinarily, and inspire me. (PS: I’m also really, really glad I’m almost done with it! Because, you know. Summer lazy.)

We’re still prepping for our kitchen renovation, which is still on track to happen this summer. Right now we’re focusing on kitchen cabinets. We’re going to reuse a lot, but also need to order a few pieces as well. I’m hoping kitchen cabinets aren’t the rabbit hole that countertops are. By the way, we officially reserved our white granite countertops! Purty exciting.

Daring Greatly by Brené Brown – Vulnerability has never been my strong suit and shame is, frankly, a place of familiarity for me, so this dive into both areas is both deeply uncomfortable and incredibly enlightening. I’m so glad I’m reading this book; I need it.

I also just finished The Invention of Wings by Sue Monk Kidd. So, so good. The perfect summer read for me – totally a page turner, but incredibly insightful at the same time. I may have cried. A few times.
