Iiiiiit’s time! Valentine’s Day is just around the corner. Bring on the pink, the hearts, the red velvet, the mushy-mush. Gushing proclamations of love and stubborn anti-V.D. sentiments are sure to abound in equal measure.
Me, I probably fall somewhere in the middle of the lovers and the haters. I’m having more fun with holidays now that I have a toddler running about, so a few sticky handmade greetings and at least one batch of heart-shaped cookies will be in order. And while I’m not a fan of (and don’t subscribe to) the forced commercialism of the day (I do NOT need or want a $125 bunch of roses), ultimately if a day dedicated to love spreads a few more warm fuzzies around to all of us, I think that’s probably a good thing overall.
I’ve gone a little off track, but I did have a point.
See, this rosy-colored smoothie is especially perfect for your lovah or loved one this time of year. I mean, it’s good any time of year. But especially now.
It’s super, duper, flushed-and-in-love pink. And it’s dang delicious, too.
Ever since I tried Julia’s incredible Kale Ginger Detox Smoothie, I’ve been all about fresh ginger in smoothies. I just adore the fresh, zippy little kick it adds.
I mixed strawberries and ginger together on a whim, and yeah. I looooved it. Ice cold warm fuzzies right here.
This is a pretty simple smoothie, and simple is good! Strawberries, banana, ginger. A little almond milk, some chia seeds to amp it up, honey to sweeten. The strawberries and the ginger totally complement one another. Was I the last to realize that strawberries and ginger are the perfect pair? Oh, hey. Another Valentine’s Day tie-in!
Swap a vegan sweetener for the honey and it’s vegan-friendly, or, if your strawberries are sweet enough, you might not need any honey at all.

Strawberry Ginger Smoothie
Ingredients

- 1 small frozen banana
- 1 cup almond milk
- 2 teaspoons honey
- 1 tablespoon fresh minced ginger
- 1 tablespoon chia seeds (optional)
Instructions
- Add all ingredients to a blender and puree until smooth. Serve.
That sounds so delicious! Ginger adds such a nice element to a lot of different things, and I bet sweet smoothies are no different!
Yum! I too adore ginger in smoothies. This sounds fantastic!
I am a ginger convert. I am never going back!
Love the addition of ginger in here – sounds delicious paired with strawberries!
Just made this and it’s absolutely delicious! In fact, the honey wasn’t even necessary because it was so sweet by itself. I used soy milk instead of almond milk and it tasted great.
So glad you liked it! 🙂

Somehow I’ve never tried chia seeds in smoothies, but this is DELICIOUS! Drinking it as I type. Thank you for a great recipe!
Thanks so much for posting this wonderful recipe. I love the kick ginger gives. I added flax seeds in mine rather than chia, and this was really tasty.
Hi Kris, I’m glad you like it! Good idea on the flax; I love adding that to smoothies too!
Thank you for this recipe! I was searching for a healthy smoothie that includes ginger. This was perfect. I added a Tablespoon of coconut oil to it and it was perfect (because I was wanting to try using coconut oil in smoothies also).
How many calories are in this?
What is the simplest way to peel fresh ginger?
Some people like to use a spoon! I find it a bit awkward (maybe the tips of my spoons are too thick) so I usually just use a paring knife and sacrifice a bit of ginger in exchange for sanity. 🙂
I am a ginger lover will surely try this smoothie as i have all the ingredients in my kitchen right now.
