When I’m developing a recipe, I try to come back and make notes about how much I liked (or didn’t like) the end result. This one, after the first try? My notes were “SO GOOD – buttery, crispy, delicious.”
And I still feel the way after the second, third, fourth, and (infinity) times I’ve made this one. I TRULY LOVE THESE WAFFLES.
And bonus? They’re vegan! Yet total crowd-pleasers! And no complicated ingredients here, nuh uh. These Vegan Banana Almond Butter Waffles are so, so easy, and with just a handful of ingredients to boot. Perfect.
They’re based off of my Light & Crispy Vegan Waffles, another super easy yet crowd-goes-wild recipe. I do love those waffles, but sometimes I’m craving waffles with a little more heft – a bit heartier. So I thought I’d throw some almond butter and a banana into the mix and oooooh yeah. New fave right here.
They cook up crispy and golden brown. I love them with slices of banana, pure maple syrup, and a drizzle of warmed almond butter. I’ve even thrown a few hemp seeds on top for a bit of added nutrition. Well, not literally thrown – that sounds messy. And angry. And these waffles make me anything but angry. SO GOOD.

Could this recipe be used for pancakes? I don’t have a waffle iron.
I haven’t tried it yet! Meanwhile if you do please report back. 🙂 You could also try sneaking some almond butter into this recipe if you’re wanting that glorious banana/almond butter combo: https://www.kitchentreaty.com/gluten-free-vegan-banana-oat-blender-pancakes/
These looks like such a great weekend treat! I love almond butter and bananas together:)
It’s the best combo! 🙂
These were super easy to make and my two year old devoured them! I couldn’t find canned coconut milk so I used from a carton and it worked out well (also subbed in whole wheat flour). Trying to figure out how to make them a little healthier moving forward. Thoughts on cutting the sugar completely and/or subbing in a more high protein flour (maybe almond or oat?) I’m new to this so I’m not sure if that will negatively impact this delicious recipe!
I’m so glad you liked them and that the substitution worked well! The bananas should be sweet enough that you could remove some or all of the sugar if you like. Oat flour I’ve found is a pretty good substitute for wheat flour. Maybe work in a little at a time until you’re happy! Love that you’re making them your own!
Best waffles I’ve ever had!!!
