80 Vanilla Recipes That Are Far From Plain Vanilla

80 Vanilla Recipes That Are Far From Plain Vanilla

Posted on Tuesday, February 18, 2014 in Round-Ups

So, I’m guessing right about now you might be a bit, shall we say, chocolated out? And red velveted, and sugar cookied, and candy hearted? I can relate.

The days after Valentine’s Day are a time to regroup, refocus, recommit … oh, who am I kidding.

But it IS probably a time when chocolate doesn’t sound quite as good as it did, say, last week.  Right? And so I thought this would be a perfect time to bring you a round-up focusing on one of the most wonderful ingredients of all time.

Chocolate Oatmeal Cream Pies with Vanilla Bean Buttercream

Chocolate Oatmeal Cream Pies with Vanilla Bean Buttercream

Yeah, so I had to pack up these chocolate oatmeal cream pies and get them out of the house almost the instant they were put together.

Don’t misunderstand – I taste-tested them. Thoroughly. I mean, it’s my job, right?! My kid and my guy tested them repeatedly as well. And then, later, my guy’s coworkers. They were a hit. Especially with me. Which is why they needed to be out of my clutches as soon as humanly possible.

Whole Wheat Vanilla Yogurt Pancakes

Whole Wheat Vanilla Yogurt Pancakes

Posted on Saturday, January 11, 2014 in Veggie Dishes Everyone Loves

Our picky toddler is back to loving pancakes (and, more accurately, the maple syrup that goes along with them) – and so I am back to making them. Far be it from me to stick with basic pancakes – not that there’s not plenty to love about those. I just like to fiddle.

And so fiddling brings us to today’s recipe, Whole Wheat Vanilla Yogurt Pancakes. Let me first say: I LOVE THESE VANILLA PANCAKES! I know that’s not terribly profound or descriptive, but darn it, I do.

Skinny Vanilla Bean Cheesecake Popsicles

Skinny Vanilla Bean Cheesecake Popsicles

Welcome to my very first “skinny” recipe! I’ll be honest – I’m not sure I love the use of “skinny” in recipe titles, and I’ve been hesitant to jump on that particular bandwagon. But sometimes you’ve just gotta go with the most descriptive word, and so “skinny” it is.

These vanilla cheesecake pops are the best of both worlds – they taste so rich and utterly sinful, but they’re only 128 calories each. Seriously – 128 calories!

Maple Vanilla Iced Coffee

Maple Vanilla Iced Coffee

How did I live life before iced coffee? Granted, with a young toddler in my life, I sleep less than ever these days (yeah, I totally know that’s the 500th time I’ve mentioned it), so maybe that’s why I can’t imagine a life (and especially a morning) without a frosty glass of the stuff clutched between my desperate hands.

Who knows, though. Maybe the sleep deprivation thing is an excuse. I mean, either way, I just plain love the stuff.

Oh hey. In a day or two, you’re going to be at the store grabbing limes for your Cinco de Mayo margaritas (you are picking up limes for margaritas, right?!) Well, grab a couple extra. And a couple more. Because this might just be your new favorite green smoothie recipe. It’s definitely mine.

Pumpkin Pie Martini

Pumpkin Pie Martini

This pumpkin pie martini is a perfect example of one of the coolest things about being a food blogger: the endless opportunity for creativity. I’ve always had fun creating never-before-seen concoctions in my kitchen, and blogging kicked that creative process up to a whole new level. Sometimes I imagine the brain as a slot machine with an endless list of flavors on the left and dishes on the right. Hit the button … Pomegranate! White chocolate! and … pudding cake! Hit it again … Spaghetti squash! Cheddar! And … pancakes! (Well … not everything’s a winner).

Yesterday was the perfect day.

I got out of the house early and took my little one to a “Baby and Me” story time session at the local library. At three months, she’s too young to get too much out of it, but when she looked around in awe, smile plastered on her face, I knew I’d made the right choice.

How To Make Vanilla Sugar

How To Make Vanilla Sugar

Vanilla is such a magical ingredient. “Plain vanilla” – ha. It’s far from plain, though I really have no idea how to describe it. Intoxicating. Warm. Familiar. Yummy. But I guess I don’t really need to describe it. It’s vanilla. You know.

Surely we’re all familiar with cooking with vanilla extract. Delicious in and of itself. Vanilla beans are a fairly new addition to my kitchen, though certainly one of my very favorite ingredients. They take vanilla to the next level. When you see a cookie or cupcake or scone or scoop of ice cream dotted with those tiny little telltale black specks, you know you’re in for a treat.

Shamrock Shake Shortbread Cookies

Top o’ the morning to ya! Welcome to a big, huge day in my blogosphere. See, not only am I sharing this insanely delicious cookie in honor of Saint Patty’s Day, but I’m also launching a new blog! It’s called Kitchen Treaty, and it’s been in the works for awhile. It’s a food blog dedicated to showing that vegetarians and meat-eaters can live together, and I’ll be sharing loads of recipes that I’ve developed over the years. Some of them start out as one dish and end up as two – one for the vegetarians, one for the carnivores – and some of them are vegetarian recipes that are so delicious the carnies in your life won’t even notice the lack of meat. Plus a few extra thrown in here and there. I’ll still be posting here, but I do so hope you’ll come on over and check Kitchen Treaty out, too.

And now! About these cookies.
