With loads of juicy strawberries, tart lemon, and a few apples thrown in for kicks, this Strawberry Sangria is light, refreshing, and full of strawberry flavor. It’s so easy to make, too, with just 6 ingredients and only 10 minutes to make (no simple syrups or fussy prep!)
This strawberry sangria is prfect for hot, muggy days … warm summer evenings … sunny afternoons … and maybe even right now!
This Strawberry Sangria recipe has been pinned well over 1 million times! The Kitchn called it the most popular sangria recipe on Pinterest. I just call this strawberry lemon sangria recipe delicious!
I’ve actually met people who have made this strawberry sangria recipe before we met. It’s so surreal when I learn they “knew” me online – and made one of my recipes – before we ever met in person!

The Story Behind the Recipe
Some might argue that a true sangria is red.
Me, I don’t care either way. It’s sangria. When you’re drinking sangria – regardless of the hue – life is automatically good. Who would want to argue with that?
This White Strawberry-Lemon Sangria recipe in particular has become a fast fave in our house. It’s sweet, but not sickeningly sweet. It’s just-right sweet. The strawberries lend their signature summery taste to this white sangria recipe, while the sour lemon keeps everything in check.
Lemon-lime soda tops it off and, I think, makes this strawberry lemon sangria particularly drinkable – in a bit of a dangerous way, actually.
And then there’s the buzzed fruit. Thanks to the addition of rum, the strawberries and apples are nice and kicky – perfect for picking out of the glass for a quick nibble.
“Made this and it was a HUGE hit! Will be making again.”
– Melissa
Strawberry Sangria Ingredients
- Strawberries – Fresh is best. Fresh picked is even better! Hull them and slice them lengthwise.
- Lemons – Thinly sliced.
- Apple – Go for a crisp, sweet apple like Honeycrisp or Fuji.
- White wine – A drier white wine is best. I like Sauvignon Blanc or a light, unoaked Chardonnay for this sangria.
- Rum – Go for a light/white rum.
- Lemon lime soda – Sprite, 7-up, or the like.
What’s the Best White Wine for Sangria?
I prefer a dry-ish, light white wine for white sangria that’s higher in acid. The higher acid helps to balance the fruit and lends a crisp and tart taste for a refreshing sangria. A fruity-tasting one is even better because the fruit flavors mingle better with the fruit in the sangria.
No need to buy an ultra-fancy, expensive bottle of white wine for sangria. Stick with a bottle that’s under $25. But don’t go super cheap, either. Choose a wine you’d be happy to sip all on its own.
Varieties that are go-tos for white sangria are:
- Sauvignon blanc
- Pinot Grigio
- Unoaked Chardonnay (unoaked Chardonnays are lighter and crisper than oaked)
- Albariño
Adaptations & Variations
- If you’re not a fan of carbonation, use lemonade instead of the soda.
- Go extra on the strawberries. Add two or even three cups! Never enough strawberries.
- Add more summer fruits like peaches, nectarines, plums, or other berries like raspberries. Yum.
- For a sweeter taste that’s also closer to traditional sangria, sub the lemon with orange slices. Bonus: You can eat them, too!
How to Make It
This strawberry sangria really is just SO easy to make. All you do is pile the fruit in your pitcher …
… then add the wine and rum. Refrigerate so the fruit, wine, and rum can really mix together and marinate.
Pull it out and add the soda.
Yessssssss.
Pour over ice and plop in a few pieces of fruit. Summer life is GOOOD.
What to Serve with Strawberry Lemon Sangria
- Grilled Vegetable Sandwiches
- Grilled Halloumi & Peach Salad
- Sweet Corn Pizza
- Classic Hummus
- Moroccan Spiced Almonds
How Long Does Strawberry Sangria Last in the Fridge?
Strawberry sangria will last in the fridge for up to 3 days. Just wait until you’re ready to serve it before adding the soda, or it will lose carbonation while it sits.

Wow that sounds delicious. Can’t wait for more hot weather to try this one. Thanks.
Sangria is one of the few wine drinks I actually enjoy. I’ll have to try this one this summer.
this sounds delicious…and are those skinny stainless steel straws & where did you find them!??! please & thank you. 🙂
Hi Jen! They are actually black plastic straws from Ikea – sorry! But how cool would skinny stainless steel straws be?!
target has skinny stainless straws by their seasonal kitchen/dining display right now! if you can’t find them, you can order some here also
How much does this recipe make?
Hi Dana, it makes about six servings.
My kind of drink!
Thanks for visiting, Kelli! We are heading down to Sonoma in just over a week for our anniversary. One of my favorite places in the world.
Awesome! Have a blast!
hmmm . . .wonder how this would taste with Bacardi’s dragonberry rum instead of regular white rum? I think I may find out this weekend!
Sounds good to me! Be sure to report back. 🙂
Thanks for sharing. I really wanted to like this, but maybe I did the wrong kind/amount of wine because the rum taste was really strong to me. What brand and what size bottle of wine did you use? Thanks again!
Hi Brandi, I’m so sorry it didn’t turn out for you! I can hardly taste the rum in it when I make it, but maybe I’m just a lush. 😉 I like Geyser Peak Sauvignon Blanc best. You may also want to try reducing the rum to 1/4 cup if you try it again.
What size bottle of wine? Small or big one?
Hi Brittany, just your standard 750 ml bottle of wine. Thanks for asking; I’ll amend the recipe to specify size.
YUM! Thanks. I agree with you about Sangria – I say it means “fruit with wine”, at least it does in my dictionary.
I wish I had made this for Thanksgiving. but will have to give it a try for Christmas. I LOVE homemade crernabry sauce. My family is full of great cooks, but for some reason this always gets overlooked and we end up with slices of canned Cranberry goo. Gross. I’m so excited for this! Thank you!
I don’t really like apples. Can I substitute?
Hi Melissa, sure – maybe try some pears, or really whatever you want! Sangria is usually nice and forgiving. 🙂
This looks so yummy! I don’t love rum. Do you think I could sub vodka?
Hi Nicole, I’m sure vodka would be fine! Maybe try 1/4 cup the first time around to be sure … let me know how it turns out!
I really want to try this!! Does it matter what kind of rum you use?
Oh-my-yum!!
I Must make this especially since I’ve never even had Sangria! I made a rhubarb and strawberry lemonade that was fantastic on my last post on my blog if you want to have a peek 🙂
I came across your blog on foodgawker. What a great idea! I’m a veggie and my bf is not, and we are always trying to figure out recipes that we both like. I have a feeling we would agree on this sangria, though 🙂
Thanks, Natasha – and thank you for stopping by!

Made this today. I used Bogle Sauvignon Blanc and Malibu Rum. Cannot wait to try it out!
I was thinking about Malibu! How did itturn out??? I want to make it this weekend
Hi, I’m trying this recipe for the first time. Should I peel the apples or leave the peels on?
Thanks!
Hi Kristyn, I leave the apples unpeeled, but just go with your preference! Should taste the same either way.
Wow! This is an awesome recipe. Made it tonight but used Strawberry rum. Delicious!!
Strawberry rum, yum! So glad you liked it.
I just made this today and it turned out DELISH! Thanks. 🙂
Hi Steph, so glad you liked it!
This sounds wonderful! Will it keep a day or two if there is some left over?

I made this with my friend the other day. Stuck with the recipe but we used an extra lemon and a bit more strawberries. WOW. It tasted delicious. TOO DELICIOUS. That stuff is strong. Or maybe it was because I also drank whatever was left from the bottle of white rum – Bicardi Superior. Ended up watching Rocky Horror and dancing around.
Had a huuuge hangover the next day woah. If you are trying to get drunk of this remember it is sweet as hell, and its gonna hurt in the morning. Drinking water before you go to bed is a muuust.
But all in all, great recipe! Gonna try it again and not drink as much/ hydrate myself.
Hi Natalia, I’m glad you liked it – and sorry about the hangover!

What can be used instead of the lemon-lime soda? I can’t do anything carbonated.
Hi Janice, lemonade might be good, though I’d suggest starting out with a smaller batch – maybe half the recipe – and seeing if that works. Please let me know how it turns out if you try it!
I can’t wait to make this! I love the jars! Thanks for the share 🙂
This recipe looks delicious! I will definitely be trying it in the near future! I’m just wondering where you found your drink container in the picture. I would love to find one like it. Thanks for sharing this recipe 🙂
Hi Kendra! The container is Takeya brand and it is awesome. This one is very similar: http://www.takeyausa.com/products/pitchers-and-carafes/airtight-jug-66oz.html. It’s airtight so if it’s too tall to sit upright in your fridge you can lay it on its side. I actually got a pack of two at Costco.
How long does it keep ? Needing to make it tonight to have ready when i get home tomorrow night for a party. Think it will still be ok or should i wait to add the strawberries until tomorrow?
Hi Angie, it keeps pretty well for about 24 hour, but I’d suggest slicing the strawberries tonight and putting them in first thing in the morning, they won’t get as waterlogged that way. And definitely wait to add the soda until right before serving. Have fun!

I am making this for a bridal shower tomorrow, do you think it would be ok to let the fruit soak in the wine and etc. over night or should I make it fresh in the morning? The bridal shower is at 1 tomorrow.
I think it would be better overnight; better to let the fruit soak a little longer than not quite enough. Have fun!

I want to make this as a drink for my wedding reception, Can I make this in larger quantity the night before?
Hi Denise,
I’m sure that will work just fine – I wouldn’t let it soak for more than 24 hours though, and add the Sprite at the last minute if possible. Please do a test run first! Good excuse to drink sangria. 🙂
Congratulations!

I saw a suggestion substituting vodka for the rum. Has anyone tried that yet?
I haven’t heard if anyone has tried it and liked it – and I haven’t tried it yet. I hope someone tries and comes back to report!
This sounds amazing. I’m kind of obsessed with elderflower liqueur right now and might try subbing it out for the rum. Yum!
That sounds so good! Please report back on how it turns out if you try it.

sounds yum! How many does this recipe serve?
Hi Emma! It serves about 6.
How do you get the sangria that pink color? Does it turn naturally with the strawberries?
Hi Kathleen, yep, that’s thanks to the strawberries. 🙂

Hi Kare, Being Spanish I have to say that yes the Sangria is normally red but we in fact also have White wine sangría, to make it we use sparkling White wine (it can also be with Sweet sparkling White wine) and it is very good also. I would recommend you to try it and you can also add some other fruits like orange or peach, delicious!!. I’ll try yours and let you know 😉
Made this and it was a HUGE hit! Will be making again.
Yay! Thanks!
